Guitar Playing Is A Fire
Hazard
Aynsley Lister
does not simply reheat the blues of
yesteryear - no simple 12 bar numbers here. He
produces songs with a contemporary feel and
sound, infusing influences from the 1960’s blues
boom era with a more current melodic and lyrical
approach.
Lister is
one of very few artists playing rocking blues
with a modern edge - tangible, heartfelt, soul
searching and full of fine song writing. All
played with passion, vitality and simply
stunning guitar work, reminiscent of a young
Clapton.
The critics in the mainstream magazines have
taken to Lister.
In a live review in June’s Classic Rock,
Pete Makowski wrote, “Aynsley Lister is a
precocious talent who looks like one of the
McFly’s yet plays like Robert Johnson.”
Classic
Rock also recommended 10 blues/rock artists
capable of taking this genre of music to the
highest level. Among those suggested were The
White Stripes, John Meyer, Jonny Lang and
Joe Bonamasa with the only British or
European act in their top ten being
Aynsley Lister.
Lister’s
recent album Upside Down on Ruf Records
provides every aspect and quality that his fans
have now come to expect. It’s all there from the
raunchy guitar, to the melodic voice and the
infectious songs. But to simply pronounce this
CD as another worthwhile effort would be an
injustice. Indeed, the critics have been
unanimous in their praise; “His guitar
playing is a fire hazard – exceptionally mature
and exciting” – MOJO Magazine.
“He’s got
the chops, the looks and the songs” –
Classic Rock.
