The Elusive Butterfly
Lands Once More
If you missed his last UK gig about
35 years ago, it has been a long wait, but he’s coming
back! As a major influence on the 1960’s folk-rock
movement, Bob Lind
wrote and sang the classic hit “Elusive
Butterfly.” Elusive is certainly the
word as Lind makes his return at the invitation of
Jarvis Cocker to take part in this year's Meltdown
Festival at The South Bank Centre, London.
A few select dates have been
quickly added which includes this visit to the
Northeast. This engaging singer, poet and guitarist
makes this very rare appearance which should please his
strong fan base as will the re-release of his first two
albums by Ace Records to coincide with the trip.
More than a one-hit wonder, his
songs have been recorded by over 200 artists including
Cher, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, Richie Havens,
Dolly Parton, Johnny Mathis, Glen Campbell, Carmen
McRae, Petula Clark, The Four Tops and Nancy
Sinatra. But of course, nothing equals the
experience of watching this dynamic performer deliver
his own songs.
As part of a resurgence of
interest, internationally acclaimed filmmakers Paul
Surratt and Ian Marshall are currently making
a documentary about Lind’s life and work, to be screened
later this year. The producers aim to show that the
creativity and passion in his music – old and new -
continues to impact audiences today. Says Marshall: “Bob
has a signature sound and timeless feel. It is hard to
tell whether his unique, poetic lyrics and unusual
melodies were written way-back-when or last week.”
Fans have the chance to see why he
has been able to endure the sometimes cruel and always
fickle music business for more than 40 years. But come
prepared to feel emotions you may not have let yourself
feel in a while – feelings that may scare you a little.
His songs hit the heart like a wrecking ball!
There are not many gigs so this is
a bit of a coup for the region. Due to the short notice,
there is no silly ticket price, so grab the opportunity
and see a legend live at the Cluny, Newcastle.
