Please
note the change of date and the change of venue
We are delighted to
bring Pat back to Newcastle in 2008. Last year's
gig was simply awesome from a truly outstanding
guitarist who knows how to rock.
Canada’s Finest
Awesome Guitarist Newcastle Bound
Canada is known for lots of open
space, big bears, salmon fishing and
not a lot more, nice though it is. So what more has
Canada got to offer? Well that would be
Pat Travers,
a mind-bogglingly, fantastic guitarist whose UK
tour brings him to the region on the night of
the bonfires.
Rated as one of the world’s
top guitarists Travers covers blues to hard rock
in his frantic live set. With over 30 years of
touring under his belt, Travers still has the
energy, drive and determination to please the
fans.
For any guitar lovers, some
of Travers early albums are a must-have in any
collection, such as Makin Majic,
Putting it Straight and Go For What You
Know is certainly a classic as is the
excellent Crash and Burn, which includes
the rip-roaring Snortin Whisky.
Travers was born in Toronto, Canada in 1954.
Soon after picking up the guitar at age 12 he
actually saw the legendary Jimi Hendrix perform
in Ottawa – an experience that was to remain
with him and shape his life. This obvious
inspirational gig sparked the young Travers to
go after the dream. So with steadfast
determination to become a star like so many of
his heroes and inspirations such as Jeff Beck,
Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page,
Travers was well
fired-up. He began playing nightly in bands in
his home city and although it was hard graft
trying to get a break, the apprentiship served
him well.
He was eventually
discovered and recruited by 50's rock artist
Ronnie Hawkins whose band played mostly old rock
and roll, country and rockabilly. This was not
to Travers liking, but he used the experience to
hone his skills as a vocalist and lead
guitarist. From this early platform he
established himself as a talented guitarist. As
the word spread, Travers was able to hit the
road and travel the world to further build his
justified reputation as an awesome guitarist.
This is going to be a very
special gig. The venue is now the Carling
Academy.

After the gig 2007 ....
It was Guy Fawkes night so we expected
attended numbers to be affected, but the
turn-out was excellent and Pat said afterwards "the crowd were fantastic, excellent
feedback and getting into the gig, Newcastle is
a key location for us next year". Pat [and the
band] was certainly on form and delivered a
cracking set that had us all bouncing. He mixed
it up with new stuff and those Travers anthems,
but everything was very well received. A
fabulous night, terrific rock music, happy band and above all, lots
of smiling faces as people went off into the
night.
