It's been quite a few years since we last
booked Rob Tognonoi,
but it's not for the want of trying. Rob is a
seriously brilliant guitarist. He's also from
Australia, but don't let that put you off.
Anyway all that sunshine and healthy living
would give anyone the blues - either that or the
lager. Importantly we cannot recommend this gig
too highly. It's going to be in September, so
the weather should be ok .... whatever the
weather, it's going to be a hot one with Rob
Tognoni!

Unusual Name – Awesome Guitarist
There were three things
that did not quite seem to stack up for a blues
guitarist called Rob Tognoni. First his name
sounds Italian, so not exactly the home of the
blues, second he’s actually from Australia [well
Tasmania] which only makes matters worse, third
he’s an awesome guitarist. Yes, despite having a
name like that and coming from down-under this
is one hell of a guitar player.
Maybe all that sunshine and
healthy living would give anyone the blues -
either that or the lager.
When you see Tognoni play,
you hear a 40 year legacy under his searing lead
lines. But whilst he is a very powerful player,
able to bring out power chords and driving
riffs, there is also a subtle side to his
playing that definitely reflects some of his
influences, listed as including BB King,
Hendrix, Grand Funk Railroad and Tony Joe
White. His work is a combination of blues,
classic rock and blues/rock, which is executed
with utmost passion and precision.
On his live performances,
one recent festival review commented, “Things
picked up when Rob Tognoni took to the stage,
his dexterity on guitar was truly awe-inspiring.
He played over an hour of songs backed by his
technically mind-blowing guitar and some funky
low beats from his bassist. Armed with a
Stratocaster, Tognoni let loose with countless
blue's licks. I particularly liked Dark
Angel, as well as Bad Girl which
was one of his most rocking numbers. It was all
impressive, sometimes guitar-led music can get
boring when it gets technical to the extreme,
but with Tognoni it was just a case of standing
back in appreciation for his skills. A true
Tasmanian Devil..."

“The audience were captured by the rhythm
and some people started dancing, but the
majority just stared on Tognoni's hands. His
fingers were moving with breath taking speed
over the strings of his white guitar. In
particular during his solo parts, people were
just stunned and left with their mouths wide
open due to his high precision playing. Tognoni
meanwhile stayed totally relaxed, just as if
guitar playing was the most natural thing in the
world..."

Cellar Club in 1996 a couple of years after he
was introduced to the European scene by blues
master Dave Hole. He may not be a household

Bluesiest performances of the day were

California, and Australia. In name only, Rob
Tognoni sounds like he could hail from Rome or
Palermo, but he's a Tasmanian native who's now
well-established on the European circuit.
Kicking off our day at just after three

built on solid riffs and precision rhythms. The
festival doesn't call itself "Bluesrock" for
nothing, and this was Blues Rock well done -
