STRAY ROCKERS IN
TOWN
This is another superb band that we have
promoted many times in the past, but not for a
few years. So! we have put that right and booked
Del Bromham and the band for a long overdue
November gig.

November sees the return of a much loved rock
band that was formed in 1966 when the average
age of the members was just 14 years! Five years
later and STRAY played their first Reading
Festival alongside such acts as Rory Gallagher,
Medicine Head and Van Der Graaf Generator – not
bad and still only 19.
Throughout the 70’s STRAY
continued to do well with more big gigs on the
same bill as the likes of Status Quo, Ten Years
After, Canned Heat, Black Sabbath and Kiss. That
all says the band had to be very good to hold
their own with a bunch of bands as strong as
that.
Over the years Stray and in
particular, Del Bromham have continued to
tour and release new records. It's worth noting
that no less an act than Iron Maiden covered the
STRAY track 'All In Your Mind' – praise indeed.
With an incredible forty years of touring and
recording behind them the band received a major
boost this year when Sanctuary Records
decided to release the entire back-catalogue.
The Informer Magzine caught
up with Del and asked him how things were going.
“The Sanctuary releases this year was a massive
vote of confidence. We did not know what to
expect, but sales have been quite strong and the
numbers are certainly up at the gigs. We have
just recorded a live gig for our first DVD so
it’s all very exciting at the moment. I am
really looking forward to the Newcastle gig. The
last time we were up there was about five years
ago with Mountain and we always seemed to do
very well. It’s our first time at the Cluny, but
I’ve heard it’s a good gig and we will be
playing a wide spread of stuff from across four
decades so there should be something for all the
fans.”
Like many bands, STRAY have
come and gone over the years, but Del Bromham
has always maintained a strong reputation and is
widely regarded as one of the UK’s finest rock
guitarists. Catch STRAY performing four decades
of rock at the Cluny Newcastle on Thursday 22nd
November. Tickets are £9.00 and available from
0191 230 4474 also from RPM Records Newcastle
and Hot Rats Music, Sunderland.

After the gig ...
It's been a
few years since we last hosted a Stray gig, but it was
worth the wait. Del Bromham and the band covered the
Stray back catalogue plus some new stuff.
As ever the
musicianship was exemplary and certainly hit the spot
with the fans. Del also pulled out a few tricks from his
guitar case as he made the instrument do things us mere
mortals can only stare [and listen] at in wonder.
They will be
back next year.
