Full Production With Liquid Light Show
UMMAGUMMAA
PLAY THE EARLY PINK FLOYD SHOW
Ummagummaa
are an aggregation of musical virtuoso’s who play
the music of the early Pink
Floyd, including highlights from the “Live at
Pompeii
” show.
One of the few Classic Rock tribute bands to deal with the specific early
years of a band’s musical history (Re Genesis and The Rollin Stoned are the
others), Ummagummaa is a project that
strives to recreate the feel and atmosphere of early Pink Floyd gigs, right down
to the liquid light show of the time.
“We are
aiming to focus our attention on the early albums, and the ‘Live at
Pompeii
’
show”,
says keyboard player Hoagy Davies. “We’re are covering stuff from “Piper At The Gates of Dawn”,
“Saucer Full Of Secrets”, “Ummagummaa” of course, “Atom Heart
Mother” (the cover of which is used on our posters) and “Meddle”. For long time fans, this includes by implication,
material written by madcap genius Syd Barrett, including “See Emily Play”
and “Astronomy Domine”
Hoagy who’s own career boasts touring world wide with Soft
Machine, Lou Reed, PFM, Keith Emerson, Camel and John Cale, plays all the
authentic keyboard parts. He is joined by drummer Geoff Cooper (Broken
English/Counterfeit Stones), Ian Ellis on bass (Clouds/Pete Townsend/Steve
Hackett) and guitarist Chris Staines (Steeleye Span/Geno Washington/ASM) on
guitar.
“For a band that has sold millions of albums, a lot of fans missed the
early years”, adds drummer and Floyd expert
Geoff Cooper “In many respects it was a defining era, because although
Syd Barrett left, the band’s style right down to the on stage ambience and
light show, was defined in those early years. Also this show is the only
representation of The Floyd as they were before becoming the million selling
chart band. As in the old days, we take musical chances and try and retain the
spontaneity of those early happenings”.
Ummagummaa
recently made their theatre debut with a hugely successful show at the Fairfield
Halls, Croydon and are now taking their authentic early Floyd show on tour
round the
UK.
