Rocking All Over The World
... again and again ... which is fantastic
news!!!
Quo’s
anthemic “Rocking All Over The World” could have
been written for a lot of bands, but there
aren’t many who have been doing it for over 40 years!
Although based in America, this legendary
British rock band has maintained a schedule this
year that would test any teenage new-boys. Their
40th Anniversary World Tour has taken
them around the globe including no less than 50
UK gigs, which culminates in Newcastle this
month.
Of course,
to be constantly touring across four decades you
have to be special.
Wishbone Ash were formed in 1969 under
the managerial eye of Miles Copeland and
are renowned for delivering high quality,
innovative rock. Yes there has been change, but
they have continued to cut records in both the
UK and the US working with producers of the
calibre of Tom Dowd (Cream, Clapton &
Skynyrd) and Bill Szymczyk (Eagles, Joe Walsh
and The Who).
They have
even made pioneering appearances in the former
Soviet Union, South Africa and India, long
before others made it fashionable to visit such
places. Through all the change,
Andy Powell and his
trademark Gibson Flying V, has charted a steady
course maintaining the band's integrity and
identity. He has also kept close contact with
the legions of fans worldwide that support the
band.
Andy
commented about this Newcastle gig, “We always
have a busy schedule, but this year being our 40th
Anniversary it is a lot heavier than usual. We
wanted to visit all of the towns and cities in
the UK that we played in the past and have just
about achieved that! There were 25 shows in
March which brings us to
Newcastle in the final week. We genuinely love
playing in the Northeast, the audiences are both
knowledgeable and enthusiastic and of course we
have built up many friends over the years.”
Chris
Dixon is a long-time Ash fan from Durham; “I
have been going to their gigs for about twenty
years and have never been disappointed. They are
always fresh. Yes, I love the old stuff, but
they are always introducing new material so no
two gigs are the same. I’ve also noticed that
more and more younger people are attending the
gigs which is good. I guess they want to see
how it’s done by the professionals.”
