Then it's the Academy Club Night. You are welcome to stay,
have another pint and meet the band, or head out for a meal at one of the fine restaurants in
Newcastle!

Remember you can also
purchase CD's at the gig or online if you click on to the
band or artists own web site

Whilst it is not possible
- unless
we make a documentary - but if you could see this band back stage
before the gig, you would be impressed. Each musician in this
big band gets himself ready in his own way,
there is lots of fun and the sense of anticipation is very
special. These guys love to get up there and perform, have a
great time and ensure they play at their best so that you will leave very happy. And
that's what happens! |

The Best Bar Band In The World!
Probably
over 100 different artists can claim to have been part of
The Jukes
at one time or another. Artists like
Bruce Springsteen, Max Weinberg,
Little Steven, former Miami horn
Richard (La Bamba) Rosenberg
and
Jon Bon Jovi
have been known to show up to play with the band.
The heart of the Jukes has
always been the vocals of
"Southside" Johnny Lyon
who also plays
harmonica on many songs. Lead guitar was originally played by
Billy
Rush
back in the days when
"Miami" Steve Van Zant
wrote and produced for the band. Billy also shared vocals with Southside
on some tracks. Lead guitar is now played by
Bobby Bandiera
who
also gets a chance to sing some of his own songs with the Jukes during
most shows. For more
information about the band's line-up of personnel, check out the
Official
Southside web site
Seeing Southside Johnny live is
an experience not a concert - a show you won't forget!
Check
this recent review ....
"I was quite
speechless after this show, this band really did render me without words.
I've seen some bands in my time, but this was something different. We had
a huge crowd, many left in disbelief, shaking their heads at the
staggering quality of this band. So I asked my pal Chris to say a few words
....... "
It was Saturday night and
it sure was an extra special one as Newcastle was
transformed into New Jersey and we were looking for "Don't Walk"
signs and pretzel vendors in the West End.
Blame all this on Southside
Johnny & The Asbury Jukes who roared and thundered like an express
train for two whole hours. The Jukes are the engine fired up on passion
for sounds that spiral down any air-shaft. Street corner Doo Wop, 50's
R&B radio, whilst images of Dion, Levi Stubbs and Sam Cooke seemed to
lurk in the wings.
The conductor and driver
was Southside Johnny Lyon whose voice has been raked over one too many bar
room floors. When not flailing his arms a la Joe Cocker, he's
head-butting the Farfisa organ, having a bad hair day and strafing your
ears with harmonica blasts. The seven piece Jukes powered him through the
Mo Town cover Walk Away Renee, and tribute I'll Play The Fool, a song
walked by the ghost of Smokey Robinson. There were Southside Johnny
classics wall-to-wall, Love Is A Sacrifice and an accapella Hearts Of
Stone with his Springsteen look-alike guitarist. Don't forget the Boss
himself hails from the same rail-yard in New Jersey hence a great reading
of his Walk You All The Way Home.
Southside Johnny's a
democratic despot and every Juke got a blow including the gyrating Miami
Horns. Beneath the slickness and precision there was white hot soul
culminating in Sam Cooke's immortal "We're Having A Party" we
were and how. C.P.
