Wednesday 27th August 2008 An Astounding Night With THE ANIMALS & STEVE CROPPER @ The Carling Academy, Newcastle This very special gig sees both an American and a Northeast inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: Steve Cropper of Booker T & The MG’s and John Steel of The Animals. How many times have you seen the word “legend” used when referring to musicians and what is a legend anyway? Maybe it’s someone who writes some of the greatest songs of all time such as soul classics, Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay and Knock On Wood. It could be someone in one of the world’s best-ever instrumental bands responsible for smash hits like Green Onions and Time Is Tight. Or how about one of the leading players in a globally successful band and movie of the same name? Oh, yes and what if he is voted the second best guitarists of all time behind Jimi Hendrix by the readers of Mojo Magazine. That could only be the great Steve Cropper who is back in the Northeast in August. Forget the holidays and the BBQ’s, don’t miss Cropper! The full Animals line-up is John Steel, Mick Gallagher (The Blockheads, The Clash, Paul McCartney), John Williamson and Peter Barton (Wayne Fontana's Mindbenders) and they promise an Animals night to remember in Newcastle. The show will feature wall-to-wall classics including the Animals stuff and Cropper doing many of those great songs that he has been involved with such as Green Onions and Knock On Wood. This will be a golden opportunity to get up close and see Cropper, a true legend in his own right, playing his own songs. You really can’t miss this one. Interestingly, both Steve Cropper and John Steel are inductees into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Steve with Booker T and the MG’s (1992) and John with The Animals (1994).
